The Center for Wilderness Safety is a group which was started with the intention of addressing the need for authorized providers in the growing field of wilderness medicine.

Our Vision is to be one of the leading providers of both wilderness medicine and American Red Cross courses through extensive expertise, knowledge and a passion for the outdoors.

In recent years the American Red Cross has expanded its focus to include the wilderness medicine field. The Transylvania County Chapter of North Carolina developed an introductory course entitled, "When Help is Delayed" which was expanded to become "Wilderness First Aid Basics". We are proud to have taken this curriculum and expanded on it again, basing our own wilderness first aid curriculum on the National Practice Guidelines for Wilderness Emergency Care, published by the National Wilderness Medical Society.

We are certified to teach American Red Cross first aid and CPR courses and are authorized by both the National Chapter and the Centre County, PA chapters of the Red Cross. We offer community, workplace, and professional rescuer training and certification programs to the public. We are proud to be an Authorized Provider the American Red Cross.

The Center for Wilderness Safety also offers a full range of wilderness medicine certifications. Course topics include emergency management, basic human anatomy, treatment of common injuries, illnesses and more.
